SF: How did you meet?:
S&J: We met in high school. Jason was new to the school district, I knew the minute I met him we were supposed to be together. But, I had a boyfriend. We remained friends for the rest of high school, very casual and always joking around. We started seeing each other seriously the year after graduation.
SF: Tell us about the proposal!:
S&J: After almost 9 years of dating, I assumed we would be taking the next step sooner or later. I dropped subtle hints, you know like, I am getting older, will I be dead before you propose?! A few days after my 28th birthday a close friend asked me about the ring Jason had picked... I was confused. Unknown to me Jason had shown a few of my close friends the ring he was contemplating.. which turned into an entire party of people talking about our soon to be engagement, behind my back.
NOW I WAS AWARE. From that day on every time Jason said my name or we went somewhere.. I thought THIS IS IT! It wasn't, this went on for weeks. Finally we were taking a weekend trip and I was sure this was the weekend. I even asked him, he laughed and said I was crazy. I again casually tell him, when it happens don't make a big production, I would be happy with a gas station proposal. Anyway. This weekend I made sure I looked good but not too good, I got a great new mani before we left and I was ready. All weekend I kept thinking it's happening now.. But again, NOTHING. Sunday on the way home, disappointed, I texted two of my girlfriends who were eagerly waiting all weekend that it didn't happen, a false alarm.
Sunday was a yucky day, fitting to how I was feeling with the wasted manicure and all. Halfway home, in the rain, Jason makes a turn off the highway. Where are we going I barked at him. He wanted to stop at the scenic overlook. I was furious, we always wanted to stop together and we always just keep driving, and now on a gloomy day, he wants to stop! We stopped. It was surprisingly beautiful for such a crappy day. We stood at the edge looking over the Hudson River and were quickly crowded with tourists, annoyed I insisted we leave. When we got back to the soaking wet parking lot, Jason nervously got down on one knee and FINALLY PROPOSED.
I was in shock. After every day of waiting and trying to be "prepared", he gave me exactly what I wanted. No production, a surprise but not one I had to be uncomfortable about, and of course a beautiful ring! I was speechless, literally. I stood there in an unplanned outfit; a concert sweatshirt, a messy bun, and comfy shorts. It was totally me and so us. It was everything I could have ever wanted. The two of us. Still speechless. He asked if I was saying yes and finally I answered, of course, I said yes!
