"Love is life. All, everything that I understand, I understand only because I love."
#FoxyFeature Molly and Matt
SF: How did you meet?:
I never expected to meet a guy like Matt. I was home from college for the summer, in between my sophomore and junior years (we were babies!), and it was my first day of work as a hostess at BK Sweeney’s in Bethpage.
I walked in and was told Matt (the waiter) would be training me. I can't remember what we talked about that day, but I can remember how smitten I was following him around the restaurant, watching him fill soda glasses, helping him set up tables with silverware. He was adorable and SO NICE. I went home that night, walked in the door, and when my mom asked how the day was, I said it was good…and I met the greatest guy! Little did I know how much my life was about to change.
Just a few months later, I went back to Boston University. I had two years left of college in another city...and a two-page letter from Matt in my suitcase. The letter said how he had an unforgettable summer, but he understood if I wanted to enjoy my last years in college without a boyfriend, and hoped we could still stay in touch while I was gone. Was he crazy?! As if I could ever consider letting him get away...
The first time I saw Molly was June 2009. With blonde hair and a pink dress, she was coming in for an interview at the restaurant I worked at for a summer job as a hostess. The next week was her first shift and I told the manager that I wouldn't mind showing the new girl around. A few days later, my big moment came during a busy Thursday at the restaurant. I offered Molly a piece of gum and she politely accepted - I took that as a good sign. I was leaving for a family trip to California the next day so I did what any 20-year-old would do, scour Facebook until I found her profile and sent a late night friend request.
The Facebook messaging went on for a few weeks until one night, with the help of some liquid courage, I mustered up the confidence to send her my number. After a few days of texting back and forth we went on our first date. I realized that I must have done something right because the night ended with Molly leaning in for a kiss and agreeing to go on a second date. The rest of the summer consisted of a Blink 182 concert, beach trips, a Yankee game, and a few more dinners before Molly headed back to Boston for school.
Two weeks after school started, Molly invited me up to Boston for the weekend. Before I knew it the trips to Boston became a monthly thing. Fast forward to January 2010. It was Molly's last night of winter break before going back to school, and as we were sitting in the car saying our goodbyes, she said "I love you" just before leaving. It was a simple moment, but I knew from then on that I couldn't wait to marry her.
SF: Tell us about the proposal!:
M&M: Matt proposed in December 2015 at the same spot on the Long Beach boardwalk where him and Molly went after dinner on their first date almost seven years before then. After the proposal, they drove at Matt’s parents’ house (with plans to stop at Molly’s parents’ house next). However, when they arrived to Matt's parents' house, they were greeted with an amazing surprise party with 40+ friends and family members.
At the end of the night, when the party ended, Matt gave Molly a scrapbook full of items he had secretly saved from their relationship for the past 7+ years - movie tickets, hotel room keys, restaurant receipts, and pictures of their life together, including photos of Matt ring shopping, and a picture of Matt with Molly's Dad the day he asked his permission to marry her. It was unreal!
