LONG ISLAND ENGAGEMENT SHOOT LOCATION OPTION 1: THE BEACH
It may be obvious, but living on an island has its perks…like being surrounded by beaches on all sides! The beach is by far the most popular destination for Long Island engagement shoots. And since there are so many different beaches to choose from, your photos can still have the unique touch that you’re after.
Whether you are planning on just walking along the beach, having a picnic in the sand, or actually taking a dip in the ocean, Long Islanders cannot go wrong with a beach photo shoot. We’ve even had couples have their engagement photos taken at the beach in the winter. Imagine the photos of you all bundled, cozy and snuggled next to the love of your life. If you are lucky enough to get snow that day, then all the better!
Check out our list below for some of the most popular spots for beach engagement photos:
Lido Beach, Long Beach
Gilgo Beach or Tobay Beach
Smith Point County Park, Shirley
Pirate’s Cove (McAllister Park), Port Jefferson
The Hamptons
Montauk
Various private members-only town beaches along the North Shore & Long Beach (you may need to acquire a guest pass for your photographer)
** Location highly recommended by Silverfox Studios
LOCATION OPTION 2: THE BOARDWALK
Okay, so maybe this is cheating… It is technically still a beach, but these specific beaches have a boardwalk! You can get the best of both worlds this way. Your boardwalk engagement shoot can capture you and your love strolling down the boardwalk or kissing underneath it. Just like in the movies! Winter, spring, summer, fall. Golden hour or a nighttime shoot. The timing depends on what kind of style you’re going for! But no matter when you choose, the where is going to be stunning in photos.
Here’s a few beaches with boardwalks for your Long Island engagement shoot:
Jones Beach Field 10 Fishing Piers**
Sunken Meadow State Park, Kings Park
Crab Meadow Beach, Fort Salonga
** Location highly recommended by Silverfox Studios
LOCATION OPTION 3: THE HARBOR / MARINA
Keeping along with this water theme we’ve got going on so far, the harbor, marina, or boat dock is another excellent location for an engagement shoot. Long Island has some beautiful places that look great in pictures through all types of weather conditions. You and your partner can pose while romantically looking out at the water together. Or, you can take photos on a boat (given that you own it or rented it - with someone else driving, of course).
Check out these great spots for engagement photos:
Blydenburgh Park, Smithtown **
Port Jefferson Harbor
Cold Spring Harbor
Mitchell Park Marina, Greenport
The yacht club that you belong to (you may need to provide a guest pass for your photographer)
** Location highly recommended by Silverfox Studios
LOCATION OPTION 4: THE PARK / IN NATURE
Alright, let’s move on to a different type of natural wonder - the beautiful outdoors or nature itself. Long Island is home to a number of wonderful parks. The plentiful options alone are enough to seriously consider having your engagement shoot at the park.
Every season brings something different. Soft white snow surrounding you in winter, and fabulous fall foliage in autumn. Not to mention beautiful blooms in spring, and stunning sunlight shining down on you in summer.
Here’s some incredible parks for your shortlist for your Long Island engagement shoot:
Prosser Pines, Middle Island **
Tanglewood Preserve, Rockville Centre **
Southaven County Park, Yaphank **
Frank Melville Memorial Park, East Setauket **
Caumsett State Historic Park Preserve, Lloyd Harbor **
Roslyn Duck Pond (Gerry Pond Park)**
** Location highly recommended by Silverfox Studios
LONG ISLAND ENGAGEMENT SHOOT LOCATION OPTION 5: THE GARDENS
Do you love being surrounded by flowers, greenhouses, and twisting vine? If so, you may want to schedule your engagement shoot in one of Long Island’s many gardens, arboretums, or preserves! It’s not hard to imagine your photos with the sun shining and the flowers blooming. Plus, who doesn’t want to show off their engagement ring amongst the beautiful garden florals?
Here’s a few places to check out for your garden engagement shoot:
Planting Fields Arboretum, Oyster Bay **
Bayard Cutting Arboretum, Oakdale **
Bailey Arboretum, Locust Valley **
Clark Botanic Gardens, Roslyn Heights
Majestic Gardens, Rocky Heights (also a wedding venue)
Lavender by the Bay, East Marion
North Fork Sunflower Maze, Mattituck
** Location highly recommended by Silverfox Studios
LOCATION OPTION 6: THE MANSION / HISTORIC SITE
Maybe you’d like to meet your photographer at a local mansion or historical site! You may be surprised how many you can visit on Long Island. These locations usually require a photography permit for engagement photo shoots on their grounds. Just make sure you secure your permit well beforehand to avoid any surprises the day of your shoot! This goes for any location on this list - you don’t want to arrive for your engagement shoot only to be turned away at the gates!
Here’s a few gorgeous spots to take your mansion or historic photographs on Long Island:
Westbury Manor ** (also a wedding venue)
Caumsett State Historic Park Preserve, Lloyd Harbor **
LIU Post Campus, Brookville **
Sagamore Hill National Historic Site, Oyster Bay **
The American Airpower Museum, Farmingdale
Cradle of Aviation Museum, Garden City
Coindre Hall, Huntington **
Vanderbilt Museum, Centerport
** Location highly recommended by Silverfox Studios
ENGAGEMENT SHOOT LOCATION OPTION 7: THE CITY
Perhaps Long Island just isn’t cutting it in terms of your aesthetic and maybe you want a change of pace. With the five boroughs so close, the city is a excellent option for your engagement shoot. Perhaps it’s a city skyline you want in the background, or a bridge or other landmark.
Did the two of you meet while jogging in Central Park or while taking in the sights from Gantry Park in Long Island City? Regardless of whether the location is meaningful or not, the options are limitless! We could probably write an entire blog just about Manhattan engagement shoot locations, let alone the other 4 boroughs.
Be sure to ask your wedding photography company if they have any additional fees for NYC engagement shoot locations. Since this is farther than the norm, they may have an additional charge to cover the extra travel. This goes for any Eastern Long Island locations past Riverhead as well!
Here’s some city sites where you and your future spouse can get truly impressive engagement photos:
Brooklyn
Dumbo
Brooklyn Promenade
Williamsburg Bridge
Gantry Plaza State Park, Long Island City
Washington Square Park or Bryant Park, Manhattan
Central Park, Manhattan
The Loeb Boathouse
Shakespeare Garden
Cop Cot
Bethesda Terrace & Fountain
Near one of Central Park’s many bridges or arches
Grand Central Terminal, Manhattan
Top of the Rock, Manhattan
LOCATION OPTION 8: UNIQUE SPOTS / PLACES WITH SPECIAL MEANING
A location with significant meaning is the perfect place to take photographs to announce that you’re engaged! Some unique examples of places that might hold meaning are a vineyard or brewery, sports stadium, or in front of a mural. A special place is also such a great way to express your personalities and mutual likes on your Save The Date cards!
Here’s a few places where we’ve taken photographs that have held meaning for some of our past Silverfoxy couples:
The Vineyards at Aquebogue, Riverhead (also a wedding venue)
Sand City Brewing Co., Northport
Citi Field (Home of the New York Mets), Queens
Luna Park, Coney Island
